We all have bands we look up to. For me, MxPx is one of them. Way back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, there are a few ways to follow your favourite bands. You can either listen to them on the radio, watch them on MTV or you can send them a snail-mail, which has a fifty-fifty chance of reaching them. Now fast forward to the present, the internet and social media made it so much easier to connect with your musical heroes. I was able to get in touch with Mike Herrera the frontman of MxPx. We exchanged messages about how they influenced my childhood. Long story short, I sent him a few shirts. To be honest I was not expecting much. He’s a rockstar that I used to watch on MTV, there’s a good chance that he wont receive it anyway. After a month he sent me a message that he got the shirts already and he’ll send some photos soon. In my mind I was like “Yes! Maybe he’ll send me a selfie wearing my shirt”. No, I did not get a phone photo of him. The guy did a real photoshoot. He doesn’t have to do that, but he did. What a nice guy. Moments like these makes me wanna thank myself for chasing my dreams and not getting a safe job. Check out the photos, shot by the talented Ryan McKinnon.
